The bridge is covered by a metal gabled roof, and its exterior is clad in vertical board siding, which extends around to the insides of the portals.
The bridge deck consists of steel I-beams supporting wooden planking.
The trusses no longer carry the bridge's active load, and only support its superstructure.
[2] On August 28, 2011, the Upper Cox Brook bridge appeared to have been severely damaged by flooding caused by Hurricane Irene.
The bridge was closed for a brief time, but reopened within 2 weeks after the storm apparently suffering only minor damage.
