Vũ Như Thành was appointed manager of V.League 2 club Phú Thọ in January 2021.

On 1 May, Thành won his first competitive game as Phú Thọ manager when his side recorded a 2–1 victory against Đắk Lắk.

On 27 May 2023, Thành unexpectedly announced his departure from Phú Thọ, after his side fell into the relegation zone, following a 2–0 away defeat against Phù Đổng the previous day.
