The U.S. state of Florida first required its residents to register their motor vehicles in 1905.

In 1956, the United States, Canada, and Mexico came to an agreement with the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, the Automobile Manufacturers Association and the National Safety Council that standardized the size for license plates for vehicles (except those for motorcycles) at 6 inches (15 cm) in height by 12 inches (30 cm) in width, with standardized mounting holes.
[3] The 1955 (dated 1956) issue was the first Florida license plate that complied with these standards.
July 2023 – February 2024 BL0 1AA to BZ9 9ZZ CB0 1AA to CL4 7JG (as of 2024-09-23) BJ-BK series exists but not sure if they are In God We Trust or Sunshine State.
Between 1932 and 1977, Florida used letters on its license plates that corresponded to the class of vehicle.
