Population: 47 (2010 Census);[2] 53 (2002 Census);[9] The village is located on the Dichnya River (a left tributary of the Seym River), 60 km from the Russia–Ukraine border, 28 km south-west of Kursk, 12 km south-west of the district center – the urban-type settlement Pryamitsyno, 3 km from the selsoviet center – Artyukhovka.

Verkhnyaya Malykhina is located 21 km from the federal route M-2 Crimea Highway (a part of the European route E105), 3 km from the road of regional importance 38K-010 ("Crimea Highway" – Ivanino, part of the European route E38), on the road of intermunicipal significance 38H-214 (38K-010 – Verkhnyaya Malykhina),[11] 7 km from the nearest railway halt 439 km[12] (railway line Lgov I — Kursk).
