Population: 28 (2010 Census);[2] 52 (2002 Census);[7] The village is located in the Bolshaya Kuritsa River basin (a right tributary of the Seym River), 97 km from the Russia–Ukraine border, 27 km north-west of Kursk, 13 km from the selsoviet center – Verkhnyaya Medveditsa.

Verkhnyaya Zabolot is located 3 km from the federal route M-2 Crimea Highway (a part of the European route E105), 3 km from the road of intermunicipal significance 38Н-226 ("Crimea Highway" – Nizhnyaya Zabolot),[9] 24 km from the nearest railway halt Bukreyevka[10] (railway line Oryol – Kursk).
