Born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Yvelines, Fernandez began his career with Paris Saint-Germain.
He was loaned to LB Châteauroux to experience first-team football and when he returned to PSG, he became sub for Bernard Lama, and then Dominique Casagrande.
