The sculpture has a form of a commemorative plaque mounted to the ground surrounded by 63 cuboids of varying lengths and sizes, symbolising the number of days the uprising lasted.
The monument was designed by Andrzej Domański, and unveiled on 1 August 1979, on the 35th anniversary of the begging of the Warsaw Uprising.
It commemorates the insurgents of the Kiliński Battalion of the Home Army, which begun the fighting in the area of the square on 1 August 1944.
