Wellborn, Texas

[3] The community came into existence in 1867 as a construction camp on the Houston and Texas Central Railroad and was a part of the northeastern corner of a land grant given to A.M. McMahon.

The first store, cotton gin, and lumberyard were established by John and Thomas Royder of the Rock Prairie community.

The number of inhabitants hit a low of 40 in 1950, partly due to the rise of nearby College Station and Bryan.

[4] The Wellborn Cemetery, which dates back to the early 1870s, is designated a state historic landmark.

[8] Public education in the community of Wellborn is provided by the College Station Independent School District (CSISD).

[2] Reveille VII, a mascot for Texas A&M University, retired at the age of seven in 2008 and lived with the couple Paul and Tina Gardner in Wellborn.
