[3] The city of West Branch is mostly surrounded by the township, but the two are administered autonomously.

[6] At the 2000 census,[1] there were 2,628 people, 978 households and 730 families residing in the township.

There were 1,177 housing units at an average density of 34.4 per square mile (13.3/km2).

There were 978 households, of which 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present and 25.3% were non-families.

22.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
