Wiesen, Bavaria

Wiesen (German pronunciation: [ˈviːzn̩] ⓘ) is a community in the Aschaffenburg district in the Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken) in Bavaria, Germany and a member of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft (municipal association) of Schöllkrippen.

The community lies in the Mittelgebirge Spessart and has one Gemarkung (traditional rural cadastral area), also named Wiesen.

According to official statistics, there were 129 workers on the social welfare contribution roles working in producing businesses in 1998.

The community of Wiesen historically belonged to the Counts of Rieneck until they died out in 1559, whereupon it passed to the Archbishopric of Mainz, which built a hunting castle here in the Spessart.

In the arms, the hart’s antlers and the half Wheel of Mainz recall the Electoral state to which the community belonged.
