William Emery (priest)

Canon William Emery (2 February 1825 – 14 December 1910) was an Anglican priest in the late 19th and early 20th centuries,[1] who has been labelled the 'father' of Church Congress.

Admitted to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1843, he graduated BA as 5th Wrangler in 1847.

In his efforts of the 1850s to revive Convocation, Emery had an ally in the lay activist and banker Henry Hoare (1807–1866).

[3] From 1864 until 1907 he was Archdeacon of Ely,[4] marrying Fanny Maria, daughter of Sir Antonio Brady in 1865.
