William Ferguson (Los Angeles pioneer)

William Ferguson (c. 1822–1910) was an early American settler of Los Angeles, California, after it became a part of the United States in 1847.

He was an extensive property owner and a member of the Common Council, the city's governing body.

[1] In 1892–1893 Ferguson was the complainant in an unsuccessful suit against the City of Los Angeles to halt the sale of bonds that financed the purchase of the private Los Angeles Water Company, eventually turning it into a municipal utility.

"[4] Ferguson purchased the Cahuenga Oil Company, with its ten acres of land and three wells, in 1901 for $14,000.
