Willie Mtolo

William Bhekizizwe Mtolo (born May 5, 1964) is a South African former long-distance runner who mainly competed in marathons.

[1] He represented his country at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics, but failed to finish in the marathon.

[2] For the bulk of his early career, Mtolo was banned from competing internationally until 1992, due to the South Africa sports boycott associated with apartheid.

He won the national marathon championship in Cape Town in 1988 and his time of 2:10:18 hours was ratified as the South African record for the distance.

[10] Once Apartheid was ended, the South African sports boycott ceased and Mtolo was able to compete internationally.
