Topographic relief is modest as the summit rises approximately 3,100 feet (940 meters) above Henson Creek in two miles (3.2 km).
Access to the mountain is via the Alpine Loop Back Country Byway.
The mountain's toponym has been officially adopted by the United States Board on Geographic Names,[2] and has been recorded in publications since at least 1906.
[5] Due to its altitude, it receives precipitation all year, as snow in winter and as thunderstorms in summer, with a dry period in late spring.
Hikers can expect afternoon rain, hail, and lightning from the seasonal monsoon in late July and August.
