Yatesville Lake

Yatesville Lake is a reservoir in Lawrence County, Kentucky in the far eastern part of the state, close to the town of Louisa.

[2] It impounds Blaine Creek, a tributary of the Big Sandy River, for flood control and storm water management.

The dam is owned and operated by the Huntington District, Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, Army Corps of Engineers.

[4] Yatesville Lake is located entirely in Lawrence County, Kentucky, on Blaine Creek; a tributary of the Big Sandy River.

From 1875 until the turn of the century, the Corps of Engineers constructed a series of 53 wicket dams to canalize the Ohio River to meet the demands of year-round navigation beginning at Davis Island near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and traveling the length of the river to Cairo, Illinois.
