The district is located in the central part of the Republic of Tatarstan along the Kazan - Orenburg federal highway.

The administrative center of the region is the urban-type settlement of Alekseevskoe which is located on the shore of the Kuybyshev Reservoir, 108 km south-east of Kazan.
