1-Pentanol

Pentylamine 1-Pentanol, (or n-pentanol, pentan-1-ol), is an organic compound with the formula CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2OH and is classified as a primary alcohol.

It is used as a solvent, a biological drying agent and in the synthesis of some fragrance compounds.

To reduce the use of fossil fuels, research is underway to develop cost-effective methods of producing (chemically identical) bio-pentanol with fermentation.

It is a precursor to dipentyl zinc dithiophosphates, which are used in froth flotation.

[3] In 2014, a study was conducted comparing the performance of diesel fuel blends with various proportions of pentanol as an additive.

NFPA 704 four-colored diamond Health 1: Exposure would cause irritation but only minor residual injury. E.g. turpentine Flammability 2: Must be moderately heated or exposed to relatively high ambient temperature before ignition can occur. Flash point between 38 and 93 °C (100 and 200 °F). E.g. diesel fuel Instability 0: Normally stable, even under fire exposure conditions, and is not reactive with water. E.g. liquid nitrogen Special hazards (white): no code
