12th Ward of New Orleans

The roughly wedge-shaped Ward stretches back from the Mississippi River.

[2] Landmarks include Touro Infirmary, Saint Charles General Hospital.

Other streets in this series are named after cities Napoleon dreamed of conquering but never reached (Constantinople) or at which his armies were defeated (Cadiz).

Constantinople Street was the home of the fictitious New Orleans character Ignatius J. Reilly in John Kennedy Toole's novel A Confederacy of Dunces.

The majority of the Ward back from St. Charles Avenue flooded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
