The George Richardson Memorial Trophy champions Copper Cliff Redmen of the Northern Ontario Hockey Association in Eastern Canada competed against the Abbott Cup champions Winnipeg Monarchs of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in Western Canada.

The game between Hershey and Winnipeg was cancelled as both teams went home early, then tournament was completed by a best-of-three series between Sudbury and Wembley.
