1961 San Diego State Aztecs football team

The 1961 San Diego State Aztecs football team was an American football team that represented San Diego State College (now known as San Diego State University[note 1] as a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the 1961 college football season.

In their first year under head coach Don Coryell, the Aztecs compiled a 7–2–1 record (2–2–1 in conference games), tied for third place in the CCAA, and outscored opponents by a total of 231 to 154.

This was a big turn-around from the previous year, when they had won just a single game.

The team played its home games at Aztec Bowl in San Diego.
