United Press International (UPI) named Southern Miss as the top-ranked team in their final small-college poll.

Five College Division teams compiled perfect seasons in 1962, including any postseason bowl games: In 1962, both United Press International (UPI) and the Associated Press (AP) conducted "small college" polls, and selected different number one teams.
