The 1979 East Tennessee State Buccaneers football team was an American football team that represented East Tennessee State University as a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon) during the 1979 NCAA Division I-A football season.
Led by second-year head coach Jack Carlisle, the Buccaneers compiled an overall record of 7–4, with a mark of 2–3 in conference play, and finished sixth in the SoCon.
