The race was held on Sunday, July 19, 1992, in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, at Pocono Raceway, a 2.5 miles (4.0 km) triangular permanent course.

Allison was taken to an Allentown, Pennsylvania hospital, where it was found that he had broken his right collarbone, both bones in his forearm, his right wrist, and had bruised his right eye socket.
Davey Allison, driving for Robert Yates Racing, would win the pole, setting a time of 55.548 and an average speed of 162.022 miles per hour (260.749 km/h).
