The track was originally the site of Bryar Motorsports Park before being purchased and redeveloped by Bob Bahre.

Brian Vickers of Hendrick Motorsports would win the pole, setting a time of 29.225 and an average speed of 130.327 miles per hour (209.741 km/h).

[4] Four drivers would fail to qualify: Joey McCarthy, Derrike Cope, Wayne Peterson, and Hermie Sadler.
