On April 10, Toronto qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League final for the first time in club history.

[1] After a 2–1 home loss to Guadalajara on April 17 in the first leg of the final, Toronto would win the return away leg 2–1 a week later, restoring a tie on the aggregate score, but lost 4–2 in the subsequent penalty shoot-out.

[2] On August 15, Toronto won a third consecutive Canadian Championship title following a 7–4 aggregate victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

[3] Despite having three games still remaining in the season, Toronto were officially eliminated from playoff contention following a 2–1 home loss against Vancouver on October 6, and thus lost the chance to defend their MLS Cup title.

They traded one spot to Los Angeles FC in exchange of $50,000 of General Allocation Money.
