[3][4] On 16 December 2020, the OFC announced the tournament had been postponed but would be required to be completed by 5 July 2021, the deadline for team nominations at the 2021 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru, scheduled for September 2021, of which the top two teams of the tournament would have qualified for as the OFC representatives.
[5] Following FIFA's decision to cancel the 2021 FIFA U-17 World Cup on 24 December 2020,[6] the OFC announced on 18 January 2021 that the tournament would remain on track to be held in 2021, with the new dates to be decided in the coming months.
[7] However, on 4 March 2021, the OFC announced that the tournament had been cancelled, and Fiji would be retained to host the next edition in 2022.
Ten of the 11 FIFA-affiliated national teams from the OFC were eligible to enter the tournament.
The Solomon Islands were banned from entering a team in this edition due to fielding at least one ineligible player in the 2018 OFC U-16 Championship.
