The conference released its schedule on February 28, 2020,[1] but numerous changes were made due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2019 season began with Appalachian State and Louisiana topping the preseason media polls for the East and West Divisions, respectively.

The two teams met in the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Football Championship Game, which was hosted by Appalachian State at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, North Carolina.
