The opening ceremony was presided over by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, and Ulf Mehrens, the president of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation.
Additional places were earned by standings at Tokyo, not for the team, but for their zone.
For the men, this resulted in one place for Africa, four for the Americas, six for Asia Oceania and five for Europe.
[4][5] Qualification tournaments for the 2022 World Championships took place in all four Zones:[4] As host nation, the United Arab Emirates qualified in both Men's and Women's events, but was unable to field a women's team, and its place was taken by Thailand.
