2023 Victorian Labor Party leadership election

The 2023 Victorian Labor Party leadership election was held on 27 September 2023 to elect a new leader of the Victorian Labor Party and a Premier of Victoria, following the resignation of Daniel Andrews as both Premier and the MP for Mulgrave announced the day before.

He had served as a minister for predecessors Steve Bracks and John Brumby in the Gaming, Consumer Affairs and Health portfolios.

During his time as Premier, Andrews has overseen a range of policy initiatives and reforms.

He subsequently led the party to a second term following a landslide victory at the 2018 Victorian state election and continued on with projects such as the Suburban Rail Loop and the controversial West Gate Tunnel.

Andrews oversaw the handling of natural disasters, such as the 2019–20 Australian bushfire season and COVID-19 pandemic in Victoria during this tenure and implemented stringent measures to protect public health and safety, earning both praise and criticism.
