Evans graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1885 and was a member of Phi Delta Alpha.
Evans was at one time a judge of the circuit court serving in Lee County.
In December, 1888, Aurelius Augustus Evans married Celestia Victoria Waddell.
In 1909, he accepted an appointment by Governor Braxton Bragg Comer to the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of N. D. Denson.
Following his term on the court, Evans served for eight years on the State Tax Commission and also as special assistant attorney general.
