Chowdhury was born into a Bengali Muslim zamindar family in the village of Nagbari in Tangail, Mymensingh district, Bengal Presidency.
[2] His grandson, Abul Hasan Chowdhury, was the former State Minister of Foreign Affairs.
[4] After the partition of Bengal in 1947, he served in Calcutta as the deputy high commissioner and as the dean of diplomatic corps on behalf of the Dominion of Pakistan from 1951 to 1953.
Chowdhury was also a member of the Mymensingh District Board for 40 consecutive years, eventually becoming its chairman.
He was the first Muslim president of Mymensingh Zilla School's committee and had also served as the director of the National Bank of Pakistan.
