Abdulameer al-Hamdani

Abdulameer M. Al-Dafar Al-Hamdani (1 May 1967 – 29 April 2022)[1] was an archaeologist and politician who served as the minister of culture of Iraq between 2018 and 2020.

''[6] In 2010 he started at Stony Brook University in New York where he co-directed a joint Iraqi-American mission to excavate the site at Tel Sakhariyah near the ancient city of Ur.

Hamdani organised a protest against the demolition of Nimrud, saying that "thousands of years of history are being smashed by the hammers of ignorance, with each destroyed statue, a story is forgotten”.

After eight months of negotiations, Adil Abdul Mahdi was nominated as Prime Minister to head a "government of technocrats".

His first nominee for the minister of culture was Hassan al-Rubaie, a commander of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq (AAH) militia, who was strongly opposed by other parties.
