Agordo (Ladin: Ègort, locally Agort; Austrian German: Augarten) is a town and comune (municipality) in the Province of Belluno, in the Veneto region in Italy.
Agordo was the headquarters of Luxottica Group S.p.A., the world's biggest eyewear company, before it was moved to Milan.
According to Giovan Battista Pellegrini, the name "Agordo" may derive from a Lombard personal name, possibly Agihard.
Additionally, there is a phonetic similarity with the Rhaeto-Romance word Aga, meaning "water" which, when combined with the suffix -ort, translates to "watery."
This term could refer to marshy areas associated with the various streams that were historically present (but have since been drained and redirected into the Rova stream, which once flowed through Agordo).
