A left-handed batsman and occasional slow left-arm spin bowler,[2] Sippy was the outstanding batsman in the 50-over Wills Trophy in 1985–86, scoring 55, 51 and then 90 in the final, which Bombay won by one wicket.
[3] The highest of his five first-class centuries was 138 for Bombay against Baroda in the 1989–90 Ranji Trophy.
[4] Sippy was in the Bombay team when Sachin Tendulkar made his first-class debut at the age of 15 in the Ranji Trophy match between Bombay and Gujarat in December 1988.
