Aleksandr Shimanov (born 8 May 1992) is a Russian chess player.
In 2013, he tied for 1st-3rd at the Nakhchivan Open with Gadir Guseinov and Igor Kurnosov.
GM Shimanov typically favors the Queen’s Pawn Game and Salv openings for white, and Caro-Kann and King’s Indian openings for black.
He won the Saint Petersburg City Chess Championship in 2012 and played in the Chess World Cup 2013, where he was defeated in the second round by Gata Kamsky.
