Aleksandr Mikhaylovich Sergeyev (Russian: Александр Михайлович Сергеев; born 2 August 1955[1]) is a Russian physicist.
In 2017-2022 he was the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
[2] Sergeev was born in Buturlino, Gorky Oblast[3] and studied physics at Gorky State University, graduating in 1977.
After the graduation, he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences at Gorky, currently Nizhny Novgorod.
Specifically, he guided development of petawatt-class laser in the Institute of Applied Physics RAS.
