Alexander Skirving

Alexander Skirving (1868 – 28 June 1935) was a trade union secretary and member of the Queensland Legislative Council.

Moving to Brisbane at an early age, he attended Kangaroo Point State School.

After a failed referendum in May 1917,[3] Premier Ryan tried a new tactic, and later that year advised the Governor, Sir Hamilton John Goold-Adams, to appoint thirteen new members whose allegiance lay with Labour to the council.

[4] In August 1919, Skirving was one of three additional new members, and went on to serve for two and a half years until the council was abolished in March 1922.

[1] A member of the Independent Order of Good Templars,[1] Skirving died in Brisbane in June 1935 and was cremated at Mount Thompson Crematorium.
