[2] He earned a Bachelor's degree in science from the University of Delhi and earned his master's degree in biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 1998.
[3] He subsequently obtained a Ph.D. in 2004 under the guidance of Anil Kumar Tyagi at the South Campus of the University of Delhi and moved to the US for post-doctoral training at the laboratory of Adrie JC Steyn of the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
After returning to India in 2010, he joined the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology as a Wellcome Trust-DBT intermediate fellow.
In January 2014, he joined the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) at their department of microbiology and cell biology, where he holds the position of an associate professor.
[4] He heads the Centre for Infectious Disease Research as its group leader,[5] hosting several researchers[6] who do research on the mechanisms of chronic human infections with a special focus on Mycobacterium tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
