Andean poison frog

[2][3] This terrestrial frog has been observed on leaf litter or near the bases of trees in montane wet forests.

[1][2] The female frog lays eggs on leaf litter.

When the eggs hatch, the male frog carries the tadpoles on his back to water, such as that in bromeliad plants.

[1] The IUCN classifies this frog as vulnerable to extinction, largely because of habitat loss in favor of agriculture, animal husbandry, logging, and fires.

There is considerable illegal capture for the international pet trade.
