[4] He was a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve in Washington, D.C. in 2000;[2] in the same year he became director of the Claudio Dematté Research Division of SDA Bocconi, a role he would hold until 2006.

From 2005 to November 2008, Sironi held the position of Dean for Internationalization in Bocconi University,[5] where he also served as Rector from 2012 to 2016,[2] when he was succeeded by Gianmario Verona.

During this time, he encouraged faculty to publish research in English rather than Italian, and he promoted social mobility by waiving tuition for underprivileged students.
