Lafortune was born in Sabah in Malaysia as her family were living and working there.
[1] In 2007 she moved out of education to be the Principal Secretary for Health and Social Development.
In 2015 she received a World Travel Award on behalf of the Seychelles when it was recognised as the Indian Ocean's leading destination.
[7] She and other ambassadors were briefed in China on how the government gathers the opinions of their citizens and she was impressed.
[1] Lafortune has two children and a home on Mahe which is the main island of the Seychelles.
