Annie Adams (music hall)

Ann Eliza Adams (16 November 1843 – 12 May 1905) was an English singer who was one of the first female music hall stars.

Annie Adams was born in Newport, Isle of Wight, the daughter of an innkeeper and hotel manager, and grew up in and around Southampton.

She sang while working as a barmaid in her father's pubs, and gained a local reputation singing at theatres and concert rooms in the area.

She played at the Union Square Theatre in New York, followed by venues in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Boston, Buffalo, and San Francisco.

In New York, she was called "the most original singer who ever appeared on the variety stage in America", and in Philadelphia she was "the centre of attraction".
