He is best known for being the owner of most of the lands in the current barrio of Buenos Aires called Villa Devoto, hence the neighborhood's name.
Son of a middle-class Genoese family, the Devoto immigrated to Argentina in 1850 and were established in downtown Buenos Aires.
The mansion was built on National Avenue (now called Salvador María del Carril) and occupied around 10,238 square metres.
In respect of his help to Italy during World War I, he was granted the title of count by king Victor Emmanuel III on January 23, 1916.
