Its velocity relative to the cosmic microwave background is 4,165 ± 24 km/s, which corresponds to a Hubble distance of 61.4 ± 4.3 Mpc (~200 million light-years).

According to the Simbad database, NGC 7253 is a candidate for the title of active galaxy nucleus.
