On 22 July, it was revealed that event promoter Sebastien Acaries had sued the French mass media company Groupe Canal+, in order to force them broadcast and finance the championship bout.

Acaries and Canal+ signed a contract in 2020, which obliged them to finance and show three title fights during the year, which was later made impossible by Goulamirian's injury and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
