Arthur Luard

Arthur John Hamilton Luard DSO (3 September 1861 — 22 May 1944) was an English first-class cricketer and an officer in the British Army.

[1] He was promoted to captain in May 1889,[4] and was seconded to the staff in April 1899,[5] where he held the appointment of Superintendent of Gymnasia at Portsmouth until January 1900.

[1] While there, he was wounded in action near Brandfort in March 1900,[6] before serving as a deputy-assistant adjutant-general under the Military Governor of Johannesburg.

[9] During the course of the conflict, he was awarded two medals and created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order in the same month in which he was mentioned in despatches.

[17] Ten years later, he made a further three first-class appearances for Gloucestershire in the County Championship,[15] though he scored just 22 runs in these matches.
