Aurora, Iowa

Aurora is a city in Buchanan County, Iowa, United States.

[3][4] Aurora was founded in 1886 by the Chicago Great Western Railway, and incorporated in 1899.

[6] According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.57 square miles (1.48 km2), all land.

The racial makeup of the city was 95.1% White, 0.5% African American, and 4.3% from two or more races.

24.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

29.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

About 15.8% of families and 19.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 28.8% of those under the age of eighteen and 13.3% of those 65 or over.

Aurora is served by the East Buchanan Community School District.

In 1959, voters approved a merger of schools in Winthrop, Quasqueton, and Aurora, forming the East Buchanan School District (neighboring Monti was added to the district in 1966).
