[2] She served as the State Minister for Women, Education, Sports and Cultural Affairs until her death in 1974.
In 1947, she married Nuruddin Ahmad, an officer in the Forest Services in the British Raj government.
In 1960, Ahmed started her teaching career at Muslim Girls' High School.
[1] Ahmed first became a member of parliament in the 1954 East Bengali legislative election as a nominee of the United Front party.
[3] She had a daughter, Nasreen Ahmad, who served as the pro-vice chancellor of the University of Dhaka.
