Granular pugolovka

The granular pugolovka (Benthophilus granulosus) is a species of gobiid fish widespread in the Caspian Sea.

Benthophilus granulosus can be distinguished from its relatives by their body being covered in thorny granules which are closely compacted, containing three dark blotches on their midline.

[4] Benthophilus granulosus lives in both brackish and fresh waters; low-salinity zones seem to be preferred.

Granular pugolovka is abundant along northern and eastern coasts around Ural and Volga rivers.

[4] The granular pugolovka life cycle is about a year, which is normally how long it takes for their spawning season to start after their birth.
