Black Rock, Oregon

Black Rock is an unincorporated community and former logging camp in Polk County, Oregon, United States.

[2] Louis Gerlinger came to Polk County in 1903 and bought 7,000 acres of timberland that included the area of Black Rock.

[3][5] Black Rock grew quickly between 1905 and 1913, as lumber companies located in the area to access the vast stands of Douglas fir and other timber of western Polk County.

[5] The post office closed in 1943, and Black Rock and the 19,000 acres surrounding it were incorporated into the U.S. tree farm system.

[3][4] Although the USGS classifies Black Rock as a populated place, today there is nothing at the former townsite, which is entirely forested except for two mill ponds.
